The Sedlescombe-based talent will line-up in the over-50 women’s singles and over-45 women’s doubles in Ankara next week.

Bargh, in fact, is one of the two 3/4 seeds in the 32-strong singles event and will face Indian player Rama Singh in the first round.

She said: “I’ve had the great honour of being a 3/4 seed and that’s in recognition of my results over the last couple of years and the last World

Senior Championships. To have that ranking and that recognition is something certainly that I’m jolly proud of. I’m so thrilled with that.”

Bargh has beaten both the top two seeds, Jeannette Van Der Werff (Holland) and Lone Knudsen (Denmark), in the past, but is wary of the threat posed by unknown quantities in a very international field.

Although unseeded in what is sure to be a very competitive doubles event, Bargh and Cheshire-based partner Kay Vickers have never lost to the second seeded English pair of Betty Blair and Debbie Miller. Their opening match is against the Indian duo of Vijaya Ahluwalia and Monica Bhonwal.

It will be Bargh’s third appearance in the World Senior Badminton Championships. She reached the quarter-finals of the singles and doubles in Canada two years ago, and singles in Spain four years back.

“I feel good,” added Bargh, a professional badminton coach at Freedom Leisure Summerfields. “My endurance fitness is brilliant and I’ve got a huge amount of physical energy.”
