A Lewes Easter XV, comprising a mix of players from all three senior sides, played champagne rugby in defeating touring side Upminster Edwardians by 50 points to 10 at the Stanley Turner Ground on Saturday.

A Lewes Easter XV, comprising a mix of players from all three senior sides, played champagne rugby in defeating touring side Upminster Edwardians by 50 points to 10 at the Stanley Turner Ground on Saturday.

Points were scored from all quarters of play, with the pick being the tries scored by Andy Turner, Huw James, Dave Hemsley, Tim Hemsley, Ben Wood, and Alastair Craig.

Also at home on Saturday, Lewes Womens XV defeated touring side Blackheath by 22 points to 10, with tries from Libby Fox (2) and Ellen Small, and a converted try from Hove guest player Ann Jones.

Earlier in the week, Lewes Under 15's were invited to play touring side Tulle, from France, under floodlights at Brighton Rugby Club's ground.

In an exciting match, watched by many Lewes supporters, the Sussex side ran out comfortable winners by 38 points to 13, thus ensuring a 100 per cent record against European opposition this season. Lewes's tries were scored by Ashley Walker (3), Elio Debae, Lewie Edmonds and a try from Brighton player Peter James. Darren Lanius slotted over 4 conversions.

Next Saturday, Lewes firsts continue their League commitments with an away match at East Grinstead, while tonight (Friday) the Junior Section are holding their annual Awards Ceremony at the Clubhouse for age groups Under 13 to Under 18, commencing at 7.30pm.
