Champs Park to join county league

Crowhurst Park Cricket Club has accepted an invitation to join the Sussex County League.

The newly-crowned East Sussex Cricket League champions decided to make the step up at a committee meeting on Monday night.

Honorary secretary Mandy Brookes said: "This will be the first time in our history that we will be a county league club and is a great way to celebrate the club's 175th anniversary next year."

Park, who clinched the title after brushing aside neighbouring Battle on the final day of the campaign, will be playing in Division Three (East) next season.

The Telham-based outfit opted not to go up the last time they won the league three years ago but it is now felt that the time is right to join the county competition.

"It's a new challenge," said all-rounder Paul Brookes. "There is a feeling within the club that it's the right thing to do. The future looks good, particularly now that we have made the decision to go up.

"There is a lot of work in the pipeline and there's been quite a lot of talking. Over the next three years there is going to be a lot of things happening to the club."

Park will visit Rottingdean in the semi-finals of the InterSport of Lewes Trophy on Saturday.
