Charman lauds ‘outstanding’ Horsham performance

Horsham looked like a ‘top two or three’ side in the Ryman Division One South in seeing off Whitstable Town, according to boss Gary Charman.

The manager gushed over the Hornets’ performance after a Jamie Cade double and Ross Morley free kick had given Horsham three well-earned points.

Charman said: “Anyone watching that would think we were in the top two or three, because that’s how good that performance was.

“In the first half we were outstanding and the game could have been out of sight.

“We had five or six very good opportunities - but it wasn’t just that, it was the way we kept the ball and how high we pressed, they couldn’t get out of their half.”

Charman said the reason for the side’s sudden upturn in form is simply due to the individual performances improving.

He said: “I had a massive word with them on Wednesday (before the 1-1 draw with Faversham Town) - I said the work rate has always been there, but individually they hadn’t been playing very well.

“The individual performances haven’t been good enough but in the last two games they have, and that’s the difference.”

The manager added: “To be fair, 3-1 absolutely flatters Whitstable.”

The result lifts the Hornets up to 16th in the Ryman South table.
