Checkmate! Bexhill Academy crowned chess county cup champions

Bexhill Academy has made history by claiming the prestigious Butler Cup for the first time in its 122-year history, emerging as County Chess Champions after a thrilling run of matches against some of the region’s top independent schools.

The team secured victories over Brighton College and Lancing College before holding their nerve in a decisive draw against Windlesham House to clinch the title.

Dr Craig Neal, Headteacher at Bexhill Academy, said:

“This is more than just a trophy. It’s a symbol of the quiet confidence, discipline and ambition we’re cultivating across our academy. We’re incredibly proud of our students – they’ve shown that determination and intelligence can outmanoeuvre even the toughest opponents.”
