Chelsea call for Sara

LITTLEHAMPTON Ladies Football Club left-winger Sara Hinton has been accepted into Chelsea Football Club's Academy, starting in September.

Sara, who was 16 in April, will study a National Sports Diploma at Kingston College while also training with the academy for two years.

She said: "I applied for a trial and then went up to play a game at Kingston. My preferred position is left-midfield but I played left-back in that game. I did all right and am really excited about going there.

"I was with the Brighton Centre of Excellence but got too old for it. I could either apply for an academy or join a ladies' team. I decided to go for a trial at an academy and applied for Chelsea, Arsenal and Charlton.

"I didn't get in at Arsenal and I won't go to the trial at Charlton now.

"Brighton also have a ladies' team but I don't think I'll get in their first team at the moment and their reserves play at a lower standard than Littlehampton, so there's no point in going backwards."

Sara, a Manchester United fan, has been with Littlehampton for two seasons after joining from Worthing Minors. She played last season in the under-15s, before starting this campaign in Golds' Reserves. After 13 goals from midfield, she has been in the first-team for half a season, helping the club to win the South East Counties League Premier Division and League Cup.
