Cheltenham prospects from Plumpton's latest meeting

BRIGHTON trainer Gary Moore has earmarked Harry Tricker as a possible Cheltenham runner following his win in the maiden hurdle at Plumpton on Monday.

He paid 125,000 guines for the horse at the sales, impressed by his form over middle distances for trainer Amanda Perrett on the Flat.

Harry Tricker was an easy winner of his race, partnered by trainer's son Jamie, and scored by an easy four and a half lengths.

Moore said after the win: " I was disappointed with him first time out over jumps at Fontwell, but he blew up . Then he tried to duck down the chute at Fontwell and hated the ground at Haydock .

"But after that he really thrived and he has only just started to come to himself. He's in the Fred Winter at Cheltenham and I'm inclined to let him take his chance there. Failing that there's a nice handicap at Ascot, but I'll be disappointed if he doesn't go on from this."

Former jockey turned trainer, Gerry Enright, sent out Carly Bay from his Lewes base to win the two mile handicap hurdle. The horse, ridden by Warren Marston, put in a valiant performance to win from Barodine and Monfils Monfils.

Now ten, the mare was home-bred by owner Arthur Ashford and is out of his racing mare Polly Minor, who in turn came from that grand winning mare, Polly Major.

Carly Bay is the third generation from her family and has earned 16,500 prize money. An underated 16-1 shot, she deserved to win and could go on to strike again in handicap company.

Jamie Poulton, now back training near Lewes at his original base, sent out Where's Johnny to win, with Mattie Batchelor on board. Poulton had moved to the Whitcombe estate near Dorchester, but recently vacated that to move back to Sussex.

He believes the horse will make a three-mile chaser and will definitely appreciate better ground.

Buckland Gold was another local winner, scoring for Gardie Grissell who trains at Brightling Park. The horse had dropped in the handicap to an attractive mark and jockey Jamie Moore was aboard to score a double in the two-and-a-half mile novice handicap chase.

But Buckland Gold is now on the market. The trainer said:Sadly his owner, Ros Hepburn, will soon go into a care home and leave her house near Reigate, meaning this horse is for sale.

"I'm sure he can pick up another one of these as he's much better treated over fences."

The next fixture at Plumpton is on Monday March 10
