Chichester aces are top after sqaushing Bristol

Hannah Wright-Davies made her season’s debut against Bristol’s Rose Bamber, starting nervously but taking the first 11-7. She was 5-1 down in the second but fought back to win it on the tie-break.

That relaxed her and wrapped up the third 11-4.

Anthony Graham stormed to an 11-6, 11-6 lead against Bristol’s Sam Ellis before his experience won him a tougher third game 12-10.

On the championship court, Chichester’s Robbie Temple (world 53) had a tough battle against David Haley.

They were at 1-1 after two full matches had been played on the next court. In the third Haley kept his nerve and snatched it 13-11 on the tie-break.

Temple regrouped and was always ahead in the fourth to win it 11-8 and in the fifth, Temple forged ahead with some low drives and tight drops to nick the game and the match - and clinch victory for Chichester.

Chichester’s Olly Pett faced Charlie Johnson. Pett controlled the first by pushing the ball around the court at will to go 1-0 up.

Johnson dug in to push the second to a tie-break which Pett eventually took 13-11. Pett controlled the court until the end for a 3-0 success.

Jonathan Kemp went on the glass-back court to play Bristol’s Arthur Gaskin. After the second rally Gaskin pulled up and it was clear that he was injured but he gamely carried on. Kemp won the first 11-7 but Gaskin was forced to concede soon after.

It means the Chichester Racquets & Fitness Club team maintain their 100 per cent start - and go top.

Next Tuesday they host St George’s Hill. It will be tough but the squad are determined to continue their winning streak.
