James Austin and Collins Alfred helped Sussex to a fine team performance resulting in a victory over seven counties, including nationally-ranked Surrey.

They will now be part of the Sussex squad in the national finals in Birmingham next month. Alfred in particular was impressive in gaining an individual silver medal in the two-lap sprint as well as a rare gold for Sussex as part of a two-man team in the paarlauf.

Also in action were Sophie Haig, Abby Moss and Zoe Nunn in the under-13 girls and Thomas Ackerman in the under-15 boys.

Teams and individuals are reminded to send their entries in for this year’s Chichester Corporate Challenge series, which starts on March 2.

For forms, go to chichester-corporate-challenge.org.uk, the Chichester Runners noticeboard at Westgate or the Observer office, Chichester.
