Chichester Observer and Portsmouth News contests kick off Goodwood's August Festival

A field of ten will line up for the Chichester Observer Apprentice Stakes to get Goodwood's three-day August Festival under way on Friday evening.

There will be plenty of names familiar to Goodwood race-goers in the stalls for the 5.10pm contest - including veteran Jake The Snake, Seamus Shindig and Even Bolder.

The feature race of the evening is the Portsmouth News Stakes, a 7.20pm handicap.

Eight have been declared for the race, including entries from John Gosden, Mick Channon and Andrew Balding.
