Chichester seniors gear up for busy winter

Chichester's seniors are getting ready for the winter cross-country and road-running season '“ and a number of them are showing good early season form.

James Baker added another race win to his tally by emerging at the front of a 400-strong field in the Eridge Park 10-miler, reckoned to be one of the toughest in the country as his winning time of 63min 37sec showed.

John Leonard who led Chichester Runners home in the popular Seven Stiles five-miler at Henfield last Saturday, the latest date in the West Sussex Fun Run League calendar.

He was 11th and was followed by Colin Harley in 31st, Tom Blaylock 62nd, Persephone Hagan 81st (tenth lady), Jan Hill 86th and Jane Leonard 112th (20th lady) as the club’s bonus points scorers.

The 13 team members managed a creditable 63 points to keep Chichester in touch with the top five as the 17-race programme enters its final stages.

This weekend the club’s juniors travel to Aldershot for the South of England road relays while the following weekend sees the popular Sussex cross-country relays return to Goodwood for all age groups, marking the start of the winter’s cross-country season.
