Chichester shoot down Worthing in archery contest

Chichester Bowmen welcomed a team from Worthing Archery Club to Oaklands Park for the second round of the Albion League.

The conditions were less than ideal for archery, with strong and gusty winds across the range all day.

Shooting 108 arrows with three dozen at 80, 60 and 50 yards respectively, the scoring from both teams was impressive, despite the difficult conditions.

Archers using compound bows had their scores adjusted by 100 points, because of the higher accuracy of a compound bow, to enable mixed teams of compound and recurve archers to compete.

After allowing for the adjusted scores, top score for Worthing was recurve archer Gavin Sutherland with 882 (out of 972) and Paul Johnson, for Chichester also recurve, with 860.

Chichester Bowmen won the round with a total of 3,190 against Worthing’s total of 2,411.

This didn’t reflect quite how closely matched the teams were because Worthing only had three archers in their team.

Nonetheless Chichester Bowmen were delighted to record their second win from two matches.
