Chichester tennis youngsters are in the orange honours

Chichester Racquets & Fitness Club hosted an LTA south-east junior tour open orange ball event.

This grade-five mixed singles tournament was organised using two round-robin draws of four players each, with each match being best of three tie-breaks to seven points, with two points clear.

The top two players from each group progressed to the semi-finals. All other players received additional consolation matches.

Third place and the bronze medal went to Joseph Robinson of Chichester Racquets & Fitness Club, who beat Jasmine Casella from Kingsley 7-2, 7-3.

Fred Whitby was runner-up and collected the silver medal after losing in the final to Ross Wilson 7-2, 7-4, who collected the gold medal.

Both finalists play their tennis and receive coaching at Chichester Racquets & Fitness Club.

Competition oganiser and tournament referee Peter Cook said: “It was a really fantastic effort from all the competitors, with tennis of an extremely high standard. All the matches were played in very good spirit.

“It was also wonderful to see our young Chichester Tennis Academy players finishing in the top three medal positions.”
