Chichester uni netballers end season on positive notes

At the halfway point, the scores were close with Chichester applying lots of pressure up the court and making some impressive interceptions.

The second half saw Brunel pull away and despite some Chichester players playing out of position, they stayed strong until the end with the final score 51-27.

Players of the match were Aimee Tredant for her amazing shooting and Chloe Chapman for applying pressure in defence.

Chichester seconds finished fourth in their league, a solid performance after promotion last year.

Chi’s fourths were away to Imperial College fourths in a battle for second place.

By half-time the visitors settled down and started to play some outstanding netball. The third quarter was won by Chichester but Imperial had already taken the lead and in the final period, they continued to increase it. The final score was 42-21.

Elizabeth Treble was player of the match for her persistence in the circle and energetic performance.

A home game was the finale for the fifths, against Westminster. Some brilliant defensive work and plays down the court saw Chichester win 57-24.

The fifth team, already league winners, wanted to beat their closest rivals and did so to end to an amazing season with ten wins from ten.

Abby Benson was player of the match for using her height in the final half to receive some excellent feeds and shoot with a 100 per cent success rate. Promotion again for the fifth team means smiles all round.

The netball sevens team visited the Cooper Box Arena at the Olympic Park for the Shots 2015 competition. They played in a tournament against 16 other universities from across the country.

This was the girls’ first time representing the university’s netball club. The uni entered two teams with one finishing second in their group.

The girls met some England Netball players, including Sasha Corbin.

Meanwhile, the university’s netball club hosted a Breast Cancer Campaign Club challenge night with a pink themed inter-club tournament.

Each team, along with guest team ultimate frisbee, played each other and the winners were based on goals scored.

Overall winners were the first team but the bake-off was stolen by the fifth team with their Peppa Pig-inspired cake.

The fantastic evening saw the club raise £150 for breast cancer awareness – an amazing way to finish the season.
