CLASSIC SCRAMBLE IN MEMORY OF SUSSEX MEN

FOR anyone whose memory stretches back a little further than 20 years, the classic scramble organised by the Crawley & District Classic Racing Club at Winterpick Farm, Plummers Plain, near Horsham in West Sussex on July1 is the one event not to miss this year.

The brainchild of Staplefield resident Frank Dixon, it is a tribute to former leading Sussex racers and businessmen Brian Leask and Graham Beamish who both sadly died from cancer last year.

Brian, from Crawley, was a top international rider of yesteryear; importer of Husqvarna, and sponsor of many of the UK's top riders.

While Graham became synonymous with Suzuki motocross and trials machinery, including the development of the 'Beamish Suzuki' in the late 70's which saw Brighton based Beamish Motors given the world-wide manufacturing rights for Suzuki-powered trials machines.

The 19 race programme at Horsham includes a full classic scramble plus special invitation races for the Brian Leask and Graham Beamish Trophies. Top classic riders that have agreed to ride are Andy Roberton, Terry Challinor, Vic and Robbie Allan, Jim Aim, Jimmy Aird, and 2005 Classic Champion Gary Wilkinson.
