Claughton scoops awards treble

Kit Claughton scooped a prize hat-trick at Hastings & Bexhill Rugby Club’s annual dinner/dance and awards evening.

In a first for the club. the fly-half received both the first XV captain’s player of the season and he players’ player of the season. First team backs coach Claughton also won evening’s final award, the president’s shield, which is dedicated to the memory of David Northen.

More than 150 senior players and their partners, coaches - from the under-7 team through to the club’s head and assistant coaches - as well as parents and friends of the youth section attended the event at Azur at the Marina Pavilion on Saturday.

Jason Lusted commenced the evening with the traditional grace followed by a minute’s silence to pay respects to the late Keith “Pancho” Brownhill, a club member for over 40 years.

Peter Eames and Alan Duggan claimed the second and third XV captains’ player of the season honours respectively. Peter Eames also picked up the Tom Howe Memorial Cup for the player that displayed the “true sporting spirit of rugby”.

Louise Nicholls was the recipient of the clubman of the year award for all her hard work in managing the under-14 side. Many thanks go to the organisers of the evening, Cinnamon McManus, Fran O’Gorman and Paul Sandeman.
