Clubs’ tradition sees green shoots of recovery

A sporting tradition was reinstated this season as Chichester Bowmen and the Chichester Rifle Club competed for the Spitfire Challenge.

The competition, which has not been held for four years, sees the two teams taking on each other’s sports over the course of a day.

A ten-arrow shoot-off at the archery club is followed by a ten-shot round at the rifle club with instruction beforehand.

The rivalry was keen but very friendly between the two clubs, both based in Oaklands Park. This year the Chichester Bowmen retained the trophy with members shooting an average of 161.68 to the rifle club’s average of 142.04.

It is hoped this will be come an annual event.
