CHICHESTER sprited away the Hotham Trophy from holders and new Littlehampton Gazette League champions Tarring Priory 88-85 with a rearguard action by Colin Knight against Andy Clarke in Saturday s final.

CHICHESTER sprited away the Hotham Trophy from holders and new Littlehampton Gazette League champions Tarring Priory 88-85 with a rearguard action by Colin Knight against Andy Clarke in Saturday s final.

The clash of the two Priories looked to be heading Tarring s way when in the fours Frank Tapp, Dave Bellingham (replacing the unavailable David Fairs), Keith Brinsmead and Clunky Clarke led 19-2.

But Rod Jamieson, Guy Buckle, Alan Jenman and Knight chipped their way back and by the time the singles, pairs and triples had finished, Clarke s lead was drifting back to just a 26-21 winning margin when they finally left the green.

Ricky Hobbs took the singles for Chichester by a single shot, Paul Hodges and Ken Timms the pairs also by one shot. But Brian Talmage s Chichester trio claimed the triples from Eric French s 21-13.
