Collyer’s rugby ace Caitlin named U18 Player of the Year

Collyer’s student Caitlin Ward has won the prestigious Surrey County Rugby Under-18 Player of the Year Award.

A special cup was presented to Caitlin at Twickenham Stadium, the home of rugby, at an awards ceremony last week.

A delighted Caitlin said: “I’ve really enjoyed this season and it was a dream to receive the cup at Twickenham.”

Although currently recovering from an injury, Caitlin is hoping to be fit for the new season and is looking to add to her honours in the future. “I was top try scorer at Rugby Sevens festivals this season, so in the future I’m hoping to play rugby at university and then push for England honours at either 15 or seven-a-side,” she said.

In addition to her success with Surrey, inside or outside centre Caitlin travels from Horsham to play for her club side, Esher and has also represented London South East Division this season. Before school each morning Caitlin trains with a 10km run.

Collyer’s principal, Dr Jackie Johnston added: “We are incredibly proud of Caitlin’s outstanding rugby achievements. She is an extremely popular and talented student who is a credit to Millais School, Collyer’s and Horsham.”
