It was a fine course but quite hilly and on a pleasantly warm and breezy day Tom Mullen finished a fantastic fourth out of 206 in 1.00: 44.

Rob Watts was just one place back with 1.01.10 and Phil Payne ran a brilliant 1.05:13 for 12th to help grab 1st men’s team prize.

Mike Scholes was back in good SGP form in 33rd position with 1.11:00 but the performance of the day was from the first lady Harrier, Ann Sinnett. She set a new club endurance record for a 10-mile race for F50 with a great time of 1.12:28. Chip timing issues on the day meant all were gun times and so some vital seconds were not formally recorded.

Carl Bicknell was 57th in 1.15:57, followed by Marion Hemsworth 1.25:35, Peter Cobbett 1.27:52, Richard Nau 1.31:35, Michelle Perace 1.35:56 and Debbie Day 1.39:21.

The West Sussex Fun Run League continued with a Wednesday evening fun run hosted by the Chichester Runners. It was ideal running conditions for this testing 10K, which starts and finishes in the pretty village of Lavant and takes in some fine scenery and a very significant climb.

There were 237 runners competing and first Harrier was Barry Tullett in 47.04 . He was followed closely by Mark Armitage 47.07. Tim Popkin with 49.52, Mark Sykes 54.38, Marion Hemsworth 57.09, Michelle Pearce 58.54, Steve Horn 1.02.27, Rupert Purchase 1:03.11, Michelle Holdstock 1:13.38 and Jenny Denyer 1:16.24.

Maragaret Hollamby took on the Gendon Sprint Tri, a gruelling 750m swim, 23km bike ride and 5km run. She did well on bike and foot but reported that the swim did not go quite so well.

Even so, it was a fine overall time of 1:28:27 and qualification in what was a tough Euro-.
