Competitors slip slide away at track

THE rain held off at Angmering on Sunday but drivers still had their work cut out to keep to their racing lines and avoid hitting the safety fence.

The track was very slick from previous rainfall and the inevitable grease and oil from previous racing.

With such tricky conditions several cars took unplanned exits from the track as spin- outs and shunts into the fence were the order of the day.

The Junior Rods saw Laura Blakeborough take the honours ahead of Sam Townsend-Oldfield and Frank Townsend-Oldfield.

The young drivers in the Junior Prod Stox also braved the less-than-favourable conditions well with a win for Bradley Allan, second for Craig Cooper and a third for Billy Page.

In the adult formulas Jamie Lee Potter kept his powerful Hot Rod on line to win the Hot Rod Handicap ahead of the equally hard-charging Paul Perry and Ryan Lilleywhite.

The nudge-and-spin Bangers did not seem to mind the slippery track conditions and proceeded to deliver a day full of metal-bending action that saw most of the cars destroyed, while Michael Jackson (in a suitably tinsel and Christmas tree-adorned car) crashed through the carnage to win the final.

The surviving Bangers limped out on to the track for the demolition derby, survived at the end by Ryan Cunningham.

The front-wheel-drive Saloon Rods delivered some very quick laps, culminating in a final win for Russell Figg.
