Cooden youngsters lift county golf trophy

A BUSY weekend at Cooden Beach Golf Club saw the annual husband and wife competition for the Cooden Flitch won convincingly by Joe and Sarah Norris.

The victors scored 37 stableford points, two clear of lady captain Sheena Foster and husband Ronnie, who edged Don and Eileen Weatherseed into third spot on countback.

On Sunday, the men's foursomes medal competition for the Coghlan Trophy was won by Dennis McGiffen and Ron Walters with an excellent nett score of 67. They were hotly pursued by Mark Greenaway and Peter Freeman on 68, while the much-fancied pairing of David Munro and Doug Park took third place with 71.5.

The club's Cyril Blake Trophy team, meanwhile, triumphed in their first round match in the Gilbert Print Plate following a close-fought tussle at Avisford Park. With the scores tied at 2-2 at the end of regulation time, the mighty Mick Pooley launched an enormous drive on the first play-off hole that was enough to see him and playing partner Bernie Dyer to a win, giving Cooden the narrowest of victories.
