Cool Callow grabs hat-trick

Somerville Cup finalFairfield 2AFC Ringmer 3(after extra time) AFC Ringmer pulled off the double on Tuesday when they added the Somerville Cup to their Mid-Sussex Division Four title at Burgess Hill FC.

Chris Callow was the hero, completing a hat-trick in the nick of time to stave off the dreaded penalty shootout.

AFC were heavy favourites to beat Division Five Fairfield but despite hitting post and bar in the opening exchanges, AFC fell behind when Tom Holden diverted the ball past his goalkeeper Moulds on 15 minutes.

Callow levelled matters from the penalty spot before the break following a handball on the goalline, and when the predatory striker unleashed an unstoppable effort on the hour victory seemed a formality.

However, the Fairfield goalkeeper '“ eventually named man of the match '“ stood firm and the underdogs produced an equaliser two minutes from the end of normal time.

As spotkicks loomed Callow hooked home his third.
