Corbett secures Seafront 10k win

WORTHING & District Harriers’ Jamie Corbett came out on top in the Worthing Seafront 10k race on Sunday.

The event, which is part of the MCC Promotions Series, saw Corbett take the top prize. It was an impressive effort from the Harriers runner as he crossed the line in a time of 35 minutes 22 seconds.

Kevin Smith, of Clapham Chasers, was second across the line, while Joe Bawdy, of Horsham, took third position.

Brighton & Hove Athletics Club’s Martha Coyle was the winner of the women’s race in 40-10.

Hana Kolaesva, from East Grinstead, claimed second place with another Brighton runner, Iria Campus, third.

This was the fourth consecutive year Worthing’s Seafront has played host to the 10k race.

The series sees races contested all across the United Kingdom in a calendar year.

So far in 2015, 18 MCC Promotion Series 10k events have taken place across the country and four more are set to be completed before the end of this year.,

Just over 400 runners took part in the Worthing show-piece.

The athletes were welcomed with breezy but sunny conditions as they made their way along Worthing Promenade.

MCC Promotions 10k race organiser Mark Caswell was pleased with how the race went and said: “It was a really good race once again this year.

“This was our fourth successive year coming to Worthing and it is always a really good day.

“We had just over 400 runners competing, which is a similar number to what we have seen in previous years.

“Worthing Council are always really welcoming and it is great that we can continue to come back.

“Jamie Corbett, who runs for Worthing Harriers, got the win and it is nice when a local wins the race.

“We will be coming back once again next year for what will be a fifth straight year that the race has been held in Worthing and it’s one we all look ahead too.”
