Cormorants in the swim for Sussex honours

Olivia Spink qualified for an impressive ten events in the girls’ ten-years age group with her best result bronze in the gruelling 200m butterfly.

Jemima Laurence won silver in the girls’ 12-years 50m backstroke and 50m freestyle, being pipped at the finish by the impressive Rebecca Barber from Atlantis SC.

India Rose, who qualified to compete in all four strokes at 50m, knocked almost four seconds off her previous personal best to win bronze in the girls’ ten-years 50m backstroke.

Special mention goes to Adam Long, who competed in the breaststroke at 50m, 100m and 200m. He finished seventh and eighth in the 50m and 200m distances but saved his most impressive performance for the 100m race when he improved his previous personal best time by more than four seconds to finish fourth.

His time of 1min 18.29sec in the final puts him up with the best breaststrokers in his age group.

The most successful Cormorant was the remarkable Seb Hadnett, who qualified to compete in 13 events.

Hadnett finished the championships with four gold, two silver and two bronze medals. Although impressive throughout the championships, he stood out in the freestyle events finishing more than four seconds ahead of his nearest rival in the boys’ 12-years 100m freestyle final.

Even better, Hadnett was the only 12-year-old boy to swim under 30 seconds in the 50m freestyle finishing in a staggering 29.25sec.

This performance means he is now ranked No2 among all British 12-year-old boys for the 50m event.

Other Chichester Cormorants who swam in the county championships included Olivia Davis (one event), Laura Docherty (three), Tayla Heron (two), Seamus McCormack (one), Jessica Rayner (two) and Georgia Spink (one).
