Saxons will travel to Sutton Valence II in a winner-takes-all battle to avoid the South Hockey League Kent/Sussex - Regional 2 wooden spoon on Saturday.

“We are confident going into the game,” said Cornish. “It was another good performance from us (in the 4-1 defeat against Canterbury III last weekend), we’re going into our final match with the ball rolling.

“It’s dog-eat-dog at the bottom of the table, and I did smile when I saw that Sutton Valence II had taken a 13-0 stuffing against Crawley. It’s a perfect time to play them after they’ve been hammered.”

The number of teams to be relegated is largely dependant on leagues above, although as things stand, it is just the bottom club that will drop down a division. Cornish added: “We know what we have to do to avoid being relegated.”
