Cornish: No easy games this year

The narrow 2-1 win over bottom club Lewes III proves there are no easy games this season, according to South Saxons captain Paddy Cornish.

Saxons have picked up 10 points from a possible 12 in South Hockey League Sussex Area - Division One so far with all of their wins coming by a single goal.

Cornish said: “I think this year it will be a lot closer than it has been. There’s going to be a lot of teams that will pick up points from places where they might not have done before. There’s a lot of good teams in the league and we’ve got to fight in every single game.”

Brighton & Hove III head the way at present with four wins out of four and Saxons are the only other unbeaten side after Worthing II lost at Penguin.

“It might be too early to say how many teams have got a chance of winning the league,” added Cornish, who expects George Eldridge to return for the visit of second-bottom Horsham II tomorrow (Saturday).

Jamie Busbridge is nursing a bit of a hamstring injury and Dan Burnett turned his ankle against Lewes so Cornish plans to field a 13-man squad. Push-back is 1.30pm.
