Cornish pleased with start

South Saxons captain Paddy Cornish is fairly pleased with the club’s start to the season.

Saxons have picked up seven points from a possible nine to lie third in South Hockey League Sussex Area - Division One.

Cornish said: “We don’t normally start very well, but I’m pretty pleased with seven points from nine. If we can get six points out of the next couple of games that will be 13 points out of 15 and I’ll definitely be pleased with that.”

Worthing II - one of two clubs yet to drop a point - look the team to beat and Saxons can’t afford any slip-ups tomorrow (Saturday) when they travel to Lewes III - one of two sides yet to pick up a point.

“We need to be in touching distance of Worthing when we play them the first time (on November 24),” continued Cornish. “I think it will be Worthing again that will be the team we’ll be up against.”

Having sat out last weekend’s victory over Eastbourne II after his troublesome knee flared up, Pete Watters will miss the next two games through holiday.
