Crawl home from Crawley is a sad one for Bognor squash aces

Bognor's second team finished their first half of the season programme with a long, cold and ultimately unsuccessful trip to Crawley.

Crawley seconds were on good form and despite all the Bognor players competing well, none of the first four in the team was able to register a point.

Steve Kus battled well in every game but was beaten 3-0 by Gordon Wright.

Jon Burley, Bognor’s second string, was pushing hard in the latter stages of his match against Scott Williams, but went down 0-9, 5-9, 6-9.

Bognor No3 Alex Burrows could get very little from his contest with Chris Sexton, losing 3-0, and surprisingly, old hand Dave Meagher at No2 was also beaten in straight games by Neil Hide.

The only consolation for the visitors was No1 string Paul Butcher completely outclassing Stuart North, winning 9-4, 9-0, 9-3 to add a little respectability to the scoreline.

Crawley took 17 points from the match to Bognor’s three, which leaves Bognor struggling near the foot of division four west.

The second half of the season resumes on Friday, January 7 at 7pm with a home tie for the second team against Arun Leisure at Hawthorn Road.
