CRICKET: Arundel offer free playing membership

ARUNDEL Cricket Club are offering free membership to all new players who join the club this year.

The bold step has been taken to attract new faces to the Sussex League Division 3 West club after a sponsor, who wishes to remain anonymous, donated money for the initiative.

First-team player Will Clark said: "The sponsor has indicated that he feels that the club has a crucial role to play in the Arundel community and that he would like to give everyone the chance to play cricket if they so wished.

"One barrier that he has picked up on is that some people are reluctant to part with their membership fee, if they are not 100 per cent sure that they will play enough games to warrant it. This offer allows those people to give cricket a go, without the initial upfront cost of membership.

"Having developed a fantastic colts section and a wonderful family environment, the club is keen to extend this opportunity to anyone who wants to come and enjoy the experience.

"We have spoken with Arun District Council about this initiative and they have welcomed the move as an excellent way of promoting cricket in the community."

Arundel chairman Richard Barry added: "This is a chance for anyone who wants to try themselves at a higher level, or for youngsters who want to play league cricket.

"We'll welcome any new players and they'll get the free membership, playing shirt and all the business."

The offer is open to all players over 16, whatever their standard.
