Cricket: Bognor can't force victory at The Green

Given the conditions and the small boundaries, Wisborough had a genuine chance to punish Bognor.

Following two early wickets for Sam Taylor (4-26), Bognor had to work hard for their rewards.

A partnership of 92 between Tim Dodd (49) and ex-professional Alex Edwards (98) cemented a stable base for Wisborough Green and frustrated the Bognor attack.

Despite losing Dodd to Graham Bush (1-43), Edwards continued to impress and the heat began to extract the energy from the fielding side.

Inspiration for Bognor came from Rob Willway (2-26) and Charlie La Foret (2-17), who were introduced late into the attack and had a positive impact as Wisborough were 220 all out.

Bognor entered the run chase more in expectation than hope.

A fantastic effort from the bowling unit had given them a real chance of victory, but with the batting line-up a little out of touch, this was not going to be easy.

Bognor started their pursuit very well. Elliott Clarke (24) and Willway (41) dealt with the opening bowlers, taking the score on to 60.

Ben Thatcher (5-54) claimed the scalps of Clarke and Willway before Luke Seward (96) came in and batted beautifully.

Seward timed everything to perfection with some scrumptious shots through both the offside and onside.

Wickets fell around Seward as Matt Travena (2-32) and James Self (2-43) halted the run chase, although a quick knock from his younger sibling Josh Seward (19) put the away side agonisingly close to the total.

Impressive death bowling meant Bognor pulled up just short.

They ended 209 for nine and the match was drawn. With two games left, Bognor sit fourth in the table but are 60 points behind leaders Middleton.

Depleted Bognor won a close contest by three wickets at the Regis Oval.

Batting first, Wisborough Green scored 157 all out - Nick Payne top-scoring with 36.

Andy McGregor (3-23) and Joe Ashmore (3-38) led the attack with good support from veteran Andy Lee (2-17).

Ashmore capped off a fine game scoring 44 not out with good support from Rich Cox (29) for a win that keeps Bognor fourth.
