Cricket: Bognor can't hustle Henfield

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Bognor made steady progress against Henfield - but suddenly found themselves at 67 for three.

Once more the team were indebted to Sam Taylor carrying on his fine form with a swashbuckling 91 from 104 balls, including 12 fours.

His departure with Bognor on 145 for six could have seen the innings fall away but the tail wagged nicely to get up to 205 for nine. Mikey Wake hit a crisply-struck 28 batting at No9.

For Henfield, overseas seamer Brighton Mugochi was the pick of the attack with four for 63.

Henfield’s innings was similar in style to Bognor’s - at one stage they found themselves 54 for three.

Tight bowling from Bognor kept the scoring slow but with regular strikes from spin duo Elliott Clarke (2-48) and Joe Ashmore (2-41), the game was in the balance as Henfield were 135 for six.

The lively Charlie La Foret (2-29) returned to remove the dangerous Craig Scott (38 from 33 balls) but Henfield held on to finish on 190 for seven, the game finishing in a draw.

Henfield’s decision to bat looked a good one as they were well set at 76 for one.

However the removal of Harry Plumstead (20) by Louis Paul saw veteran all-rounder rich Cox take centre-stage - bowling 20 overs unchanged, Cox ripped through the Henfield line up to take 7 for 58 as Henfield finished on 211 all out, Willam Culver top-scoring with 37.

Bognor replied with a fine 78-run opening partnership between Ricky McIntosh (24) and Louis Paul. Another well-paced partnership of 87 between Paul and veteran Andy Lee (40) saw Bognor march on – but the day belonged to Paul, who struck his first senior century - a magnificent 109 as Bognor marched to a seven-wicket win and a first victory for skipper Phil Harris.
