CRICKET: Chitty takes seven wickets in Arundel win

ARUNDEL CC won by 16 runs on Saturday at home to Henfield in Sussex League Division 3 West after they recovered from 66-5 to post 184-8.

Steve Mullen top-scored with 76, with eight fours and three sixes, and captain Richard James hit 27.

Chris Crampton and Richard Dale got Henfield off to a strong start in their reply before Dale was forced to retire hurt after getting hit in the head by a thundering drive from Crampton, and was taken to hospital for a check-up.

After that, Crampton was soon dismissed for 50 and left-arm spinner Neil Chitty waltzed through the rest of the Henfield batting order to finish with 7-37 from 16.2 overs as Henfield were bowled out for 168.

The win lifted Arundel to seventh, and James said: "Saturday was the first time this year Neil has gained the rewards that his bowling has deserved.

"None of the Henfield batters were able to get him away with any conviction and he bowled us to what seemed an unlikely victory.

"Steve Mullen batted well again and initially showed patience before pushing on later in his innings, with three big sixes, to top score with a invaluable 76.

"Young Harrison Temple (24) and Neil (15 not out) then added runs which made the difference between a competitive score and an average one, and it's another pleasing win."
