Cricket club close to major signing

SIDLEY Cricket Club have pretty much tied up the signing of Pakistan A cricketer Fasil Naved as their overseas player for the coming season.

Naved, 24, plays for the same ZTBL team as test players Imran Nazir and Abdur Razzaq back in his homeland and featured in three A team internationals against Sri Lanka back in 2001.

Captain Scott Woodroffe said: "It's all gone through subject to a couple of things but he should be coming over in the last week of April. He's been doing really well (domestically in Pakistan) and I don't think we could have got anyone better than this guy. I think he's going to be a fantastic signing for us."

Although Sidley have secured some sponsorship in the form of a sports agency, they still require further help to fund the player's summer long stay. Any businesses wishing to contribute should leave a message for Woodroffe at Sidley Sports Club on (01424) 217078.

Meanwhile, the club is to hold coaching sessions for youngsters aged 6-14 from 5-6pm on Tuesdays and 11am-noon on Sundays from May. Each session will cost just 50p (1 for matches) with the prospect of trips to international or county matches as well. Anybody interested should contact Trevor Ramsden on 221855.
