CRICKET: Prior signs new Sussex contract

ENGLAND wicketkeeper Matt Prior has signed a new three-year deal at Sussex, which will keep him at the club until the end of the 2011 season.

Prior had an impressive 2008 season, and scored 983 first-class runs at an average of 49.15, and 446 one-day runs at 55.75. Prior's success with the bat, as well as the gloves, saw him regain his place in both the England Test and One Day teams.

Prior said: "I am delighted to sign this new three-year contract with Sussex. As a club, we've had great success over the last few years and with this new era, led by Robbo and Mike (Yardy), I am certain there will be plenty more to come.

"Mike Yardy will be a fantastic leader and, with the exciting signings we've made, the club is in a great place.

"Sussex is a special place to play your cricket. Not only because of the team spirit shown by all the players and management, but also the fantastic support shown by all the members and supporters of the club."

Yardy said: "Matt signing long-term for Sussex is fantastic news. Not only a quality international player, he is Sussex through and through and understands what the club is about and where we are looking to go in the future."

Mark Robinson, Professional Cricket Manager, said: "I'm really pleased that Matt has committed the next stage of his career to us.

"Matt's been with us all the way through the system. He knows the club inside out, as we know him.

"We obviously hope Matt plays for England throughout the summer, but we know that when he is available, his commitment and ability to play outstanding cricket is up there with the best in the country."
