Cricket rivals chase derby points

SIDLEY and Bexhill will be going all out for victory when the neighbours clash in the Sussex Cricket League - but for very different reasons.

Both teams need the points after stuttering of late with Division Two's early season pace-setters Bexhill dropping to fourth and Sidley slumping to the foot of the table.

The last time they met was on the opening day of the season when Bexhill sneaked home by two wickets, and another tense contest is on the cards for the rematch at Gullivers.

Bexhill captain Steve Phillimore said: "That was a close game which could have gone either way. They have had a bad trot but they've got some good players. On paper we start as favourites but Bexhill-Sidley is a different sort of game - the league table is irrelevant."

Sidley vice-captain Scott Woodroffe said: "We've got 10 big games till the end of the season but there's an added bit of spice with Bexhill on Saturday. It would be a really good time to pick up our performance. Hopefully we can use it as a bit of a turning point."

Play starts at 1.15pm in both the 1st and 2nd XI derbies on Saturday July 2, the latter of which takes place at the Polegrove.
