CRICKET: Weekly round-up (July 18)

EAST PRESTON Cricket Club's poor form continued after they were bowled out for just 81 and lost by six wickets at Horsham Trinity on Saturday. The defeat leaves EP winless in eight matches and they are now just six points off the relegation zone in Division 1 of the West Sussex Invitation League.

Only Jack Sunderland, with 29, made any sort of substantial score.

EP captain Andy Reeves blasted his side's performance, and said: "It was a horrific batting display. It didn't help losing the toss as the wicket was really damp, but we batted like idiots.

"All of the top six got out to shots they shouldn't have been playing. I can forgive Jack as he was the only one to make any runs, but it all comes down to a lack of practice.

"We started the season with two good wins, as we had good pre-season training and a number of friendly matches, but other teams have now caught up with us.

"We need to get down to the nets to practise and work on things that are going wrong."

Mark Coskin started well with the ball and took two wickets in the first over and another soon afterwards to reduce Trinity to 7-3. But Trinity then clawed their way back into the game and reached their target in 22.1 overs.

Reeves added: "We should have had at least 150 runs, maybe even 120, but 80 is just undefendable. All it needs is a couple of knocks and they've reached the target.

"With Mark taking a few early wickets, if we had a decent score to defend, who knows what could have happened.

"It's Portslade this week. They're not unbeatable but there will have to be a massive improvement on what I saw this weekend."

Clymping drew their Division 1 clash against Crawley Eagles.

Waqas Hussain top-scored with 52 for Crawley as they attempted to chase down Clymping's score, but ended up running out of overs and opted to bat out the last few to avoid a defeat.

The draw favoured Clymping with points as they earned 12 and Eagles took just the five.

Pierce said: "It was a good start from us but we lost a few quick wickets, and we should have posted around 200-plus really.

"It took us a while to break their early partnerships, and with about five overs to go they shut up shop and we couldn't get their last couple of wickets.

"Things are going well, and we haven't lost for seven games now after a poor start to the season.

"We face Broadwater on Saturday and, hopefully, we can get something from there, although they have been doing very well this season."
