A slightly under whelming performance with the bat on a damp wicket was more than made up for by a first five-wicket haul from Slinfold’s overseas bowler Akeem Jordan as the hosts were skittled out for just 79.

Skipper Guy Thorne said: “Akeem (5-18 and 23 with the bat) really has made an impressive start to his ‘Fold season. He bowled quick and straight and looks like a real threat every time the ball is in his hands.

“It was equally as pleasing to see the control that left arm spinner Harrison Webb showed on his return to the side with a couple of really important wickets. Our spin options in the middle overs really dried up any attempts from Lewes and it was pleasing to tie up both ends. Special mention to Shutts (Matt Shuttlewood) who chipped in with two sharp stumpings as well at a key time in the game.”

Thorne, who bowled 3-10, said his side had “failed to bat with the patience I would have liked” having been inserted on a tough batting wicket, though he did praise number ten Chris Stanbridge for an important 19 which gave his side something to bowl at.

Thorne added: “There is always room for improvement, but I can’t argue with 60 points from the first two games.

“We have a similar test next week when we welcome another unknown side to us in Rye, but we look forward to continuing our positive start to the season.”
