Ansty bowlers on top this weekend

Ansty's bowlers' were in fine form this weekend as three players took at least 5 wickets each across three teams.

Another wicket fell at the same score but a partnership of 38 between Towler and Jethro Menzies restored some calm. Menzies went for 22 followed 37 runs later by Towler for 41. A brisk 65 by Jamie Newsome including 7 fours and 5 sixes helped Ansty to 191 all out.

Middleton lost their first wicket with just 1 run on the board and despite Will Burrows (33) and Matt Reynolds 24 they fell short by 56 runs. Jethro Menzies bowled well to take 6-51 with Jack Palser taking two.

The 2nd XI won the toss and asked Hellingly to bat first. The visitors first wicket fell at 50, a sharp catch in the gulley by Tommy Green off James Wilson. The second fell at 91 with the introduction of Shaun Janman to the attack. Despite 45 from Luke Boorer and 36 by Arthur Rossi, both victims of Janman, they declared on 208-7. Janman finished with 5-41 off 15.5 overs.

A 2nd wicket stand of 80 between James Wilson and Tommy Green put the home side in a good position but both fell to the bowling of Gavin Sutherland. Jonny Young once again showed the way with his 84 not out as Ansty won by 5 wickets to remain in the hunt for top spot.

The 3rd XI restricted Lindfield 4ths to 135 with wickets shared between the six bowlers used. Top score of 36 was by Samuel Chauhan but the 9th wicket partnership between Gerry Waite (16no) and Glen Lovelock (15no) 0f 37eventually proved to be decisive.

Scores by Tom Smith (25) and Jack Bilbruck (27) were not enough to secure a win as Ansty were all out for 107. Harry Layton was 10 not out at the close of the innings with Samuel Chauhan taking 6-27.

The 4th XI also lost their match at home against Ardingly. Ardingly scored 200 all out with Peter Fowles the pick of the bowlers with 5-40. Jeremy Nurse was the hero for the visitors scoring 85.

Ken Chapman opened the innings but lost 4 partners before a good partnership with Rob Targett (43). However with Targett being caught, Chapman soon followed for 76 and the Ansty batsmen failed to build on this, falling 21 runs short. Chris Hopkins took 5-58.
