Ansty make it 90 points from 90 with another victory

Another excellent weekend for Ansty cricket as all three teams won their matches.

The 1st and 2nd XIs now have the maximum of 90 points each from their matches so far.

1st XI

Losing the toss Ansty were invited to bat first on a cool and showery afternoon.

Harry Towler and James Whybrow added 30 for the first wicket that of Whybrow for 12. Towler continued his innings with Lucas Barker but with the score on 80 Towler was run out by Jordan Shaw for 24.

Three further wickets fell with only 5 runs added but Jake Wilson helped Barker add 63 runs when at 148 Wilson was adjudged LBW for 29, to be followed 5 runs later by Barker also being adjudged LBW. Barker scored 55 in what was his maiden 50 for Ansty. Ben Towler scored 14no and Sam Palser 10 as the Ansty innings closed on 181. Michael Murray took 7- 47.

St James reply also faltered as they found themselves at 65-5 as Tayyas Mahmood was bowled by Jake Wilson for 46. Michael Murray and Jordan Shaw set about redeeming the situation and put on 90 for the sixth wicket. Shaw was bowled by Jethro Menzies for 53 and Murray went on to 34no as the innings subsided to 157. George Taylor was unfortunately injured when fielding and could not bat in the home side’s innings.

For Ansty Jake Wilson took 9-52 and Jethro Menzies 3-48. There was a total of 8 LBW decisions in the match.

2nd XI

Having won the toss St James decided to bat first at Ansty.

Skipper Jamie Howick opened the innings with Josh Crowther but with the score on 17 Crowther departed caught behind for 6. Howick was striking the ball hard but he fell for 61 caught by Will Dorkings off the bowling of Megan Janman with the score on 96. Jake Smith (17), Jake Riddell (29) and Yatin Sameja (15) helped the visitors to 172 all out. Megan Janman took 4-26 and Tom Hadfield 3-17.

The reply started brightly as Charlie Rutter and Megan Janman opened the innings for the home side. An outstanding partnership of 148 was halted as Rutter was bowled for 80. Janman went on to see Ansty to victory by 8 wickets being 61 no as the winning runs came from byes. Owen Howick took the 2 wickets to fall for 15.

4th XI

Having won the toss Ansty inserted Keymer & Hassocks in difficult conditions. Ross Watkins top scored with 41 and with Paul Duplock (24no), David Pithie (19) and Navakaran Sivalingam (20) the home side’s innings closed on 132-7.

Ansty’s reply soon found them 1 wicket downwith ther score at 13 but a stand of 67 between Tom Smith (41) and skipper Steve Martin (37) gave the visitors a taste of victory. However wickets began to tumble and it was left to Harry Layton (5no) and Evan Herbert (3no) to see them across the line for a two wicket win. Nick Kitchen took 4-11 off six overs for the home side.
