Littlehampton skipper Askew decided to bat first after winning the toss and his side made 249 for seven from their 49 overs.

West Chiltington were all out for 142 in 36.5 overs in their reply as Littlehampton won for the third successive game.

Askew said: “It was a massive win for us on Saturday. Going into the game against the then league leaders, I would have taken a draw but to get the win was a real bonus.

“We put ourselves in a really strong position but we knew we would have to bowl well to defend it.

“I was delighted to get another ton and I needed to get some runs as I had struggled in the previous two games.”

Littlehampton lost opener Nathan Perry for eight and Tom Lee for 16 to leave them 51 for two.

However, Askew played another superb innings and Ally James made 43 as they put on 100 for the third wicket.

Askew eventually fell for exactly 100 as he moved on to 702 runs for the season, while Chris Heberlein hit 30 from 16 balls as Littlehampton posted 249 for seven.

West Chiltington struggled in the start of their reply as the dismissals of Tim Jarvis (15), James Howgate (nought) and Jack Elliott-Monday (17) left them 47 for three.

It did not get any better for West Chiltington as regular wickets continued to fall and they slumped to 94 for seven.

James Chaloner finished unbeaten on 40 from just 45 balls but that was not enough as his side were all out for just 142 in 36.5 overs.

Lee claimed three for 25 off six overs, Heberlein took three for 60 from 14.5 overs and Ryan Budd picked up two for 37 from 12 overs.
