Askew hits another ton in Littlehampton’s win

Askew, who took over as skipper of the side in the summer, guided Littlehampton to their first win of the season with a 114-run success against Horsham Trinity.

The Littlehampton captain was once again the star for his side as he hit 139 from 142 balls in an innings which included 24 fours and two sixes.

Askew, who also struck centuries against East Preston and Ram, is the leading runscorer in the league with 450 from just four innings this year.

His ton helped his side reach 247 for two, which they declared on after 47 overs.

Littlehampton then bowled Horsham Trinity out for just 133 in 37.3 overs.

Askew was delighted with his side’s win, after three successive draws, and said: “It’s always nice to score centuries but the team is the most important.

“If I am hitting hundreds in matches but we are not winning, then that takes the edge off it.

“I was delighted to carry on my form with another ton but the main thing was the team won.

“We have struggled with the ball so far this season, so to take the ten wickets and get the win was fantastic.

“This will give us the belief we need for the remainder of the season now.”

Littlehampton were asked to bat first and they piled on the runs. Askew and Tom Lee (56) put on 190 for the first wicket, before Michael Askew then ended up 21 not out to help Littlehampton reach 247 for two.

Louie Donnelly and Jake Deoraj both took a wicket for Trinity.

Donnelly made 48 and his opening partner Ben Chappels hit 18 as Trinity reached 55 without loss.

However, once Chappels fell it became a real struggle for the visitors.

Neil Fitzpatrick made 31 from 50 balls but no other batsman reached double figures as Trinity fell to 133 all out.

Chris Heberlein took four for 19 from 10.3 overs, while Jordan Farrell and Paul Hewitt both took two wickets as Littlehampton secured an emphatic win.

The victory took Littlehampton up to third in the Division 1 table, 23 points behind leaders Arundel, who they travel to on Saturday.
