A 94-run victory at home to St James’s Montefiore - featuring 91 from Harry Finch and six wickets for Adam Barton - moved Priory up to third in Sussex Division Two.

Priory amassed 267-7 declared from 51 overs after winning the toss and choosing to bat. Joe Lamb (15) and Elliot Hooper (36) put on 50 for the first wicket only to fall within eight runs of each other.

Sussex professional Finch and overseas player Jack Colley, whose 41 was his best score for the club so far, added 85 for the third wicket to put Priory firmly on course for maximum batting points.

After a couple more partners came and went, Finch was eventually sixth man out with the score 237 at the end of a 55-run partnership with Adam Maharaj-Newman (36 not out). He struck 10 fours and three sixes in a 106-ball knock.

Jordan Shaw was the most successful bowler with 3-48. Michael Murray added to his two wickets with four catches.

Although Barton made an early breakthrough with the ball, Priory were initially made to work for their wickets and St James’s were handily placed at 126-2 at one point.

But once Barton trapped Mali Richards lbw for 35 to end a third wicket stand of 61 and then ran out Murray for 52 just six runs later, the visitors fell away pretty rapidly to 173 all out in 39.5 overs.

Barton finished with 6-26 from 13 overs - his best figures for the club. The other three wickets all fell to spin, with Jed O’Brien taking 2-38 and Hooper 1-24.
