Malcolm Johnson’s side prevailed by 11 runs against a bottom-of-the-table Pulborough outfit which is still looking for its first Sussex Cricket League Division Two win of the season.

Bexhill were all out for 122 after losing the toss and being asked to bat. They appeared set to post a far bigger total as Johnson (29 off 77 balls) and Johnathan Haffenden (47 off 41 balls) compiled a third wicket partnership of 66 only to lose their last eight wickets for 29 runs.

Shawn Johnson and Andrew Williams (both 12) were the only other batsmen to reach double figures, while Kshemal Waingankar took 6-7 from his final 8.2 overs on his Pulborough debut.

By contrast, Pulborough’s top order collapsed before the late order staged a revival. Having at one stage been 61-8, Pulborough rallied to 111 all out with their last wicket partnership of 30 the highest of the innings, the second such occurrence against Bexhill in consecutive matches.

The new ball pair of Williams and Joe Cox again did the damage for Bexhill, taking 5-45 and 5-44 respectively. Opening batsman Imran Khan and number 10 Shane West top-scored for Pulborough with 28 apiece. See Friday’s Bexhill Observer for a full report and reaction.
