The Sussex Premier League club outgunned Kent Premier League side HSBC by 130 runs in round one of the ECB Royal London Club Championship at The Polegrove.

Bexhill posted an excellent total of 297-8 from their 45 overs batting first aided by 67 extras, including a remarkable 56 wides. John Haffenden and Shawn Johnson top-scored with 64 apiece, while young Cameron Burgon made a very good 61 off 42 balls.

HSBC got off to a bit of a flyer in reply as Matthew Abbett chanced his arm to smash 83 off just 45 balls, taking advantage of the fielding restrictions which prevent the fielding side having more than two men back in the first 15 overs.

Fellow opener Harry Freeman made 54, but the visitors were never really in the hunt and none of their final nine batsmen scored more than five as they were all out for 167 in the 32nd over.

Joe Cox and Jamie Bristow-Diamond picked up three wickets each for Bexhill, while Liam Bryant and Josh Beeslee took two apiece. Bexhill will host neighbours Eastbourne in round two this coming Sunday from 1pm.
