Luke Youngs has returned to the Cambridge area after the end of his year’s internship at Sussex CCC and Callum Guest will also miss the visit from Horsham tomorrow (Saturday) because of work.

Youngs and Guest are the division’s second and fourth highest runscorers respectively so far this season with 178 and 157 respectively from three matches. They’ve also forged partnerships of 197 and 120 together.

Bexhill captain Johnathan Haffenden said: “It’s two big players gone in the same week, but we’ve got good depth that we can pick from. Josh Beeslee took five wickets for the twos and James Walker’s scored a hundred for the twos; there’s a lot of people that can step up.”

Bexhill lie third in the early Sussex Premier League table having won two and drawn one of their opening three league matches.

Haffenden said: “I’m pretty happy. We’ve got off to a good start and we’ve got the boys who can put on these performances. We’re improving every game and if we keep doing what we know we can, we’re not going to be too far off winning games.

“We’ve got a strong side and we’ve got boys who want to be in our side who have to play twos cricket at the moment because they can’t get in. It’s great for the club.”
