Bexhill match cut short by rain

Bexhill Cricket Club's match away to Cuckfield in the Sussex Premier League on Saturday was abandoned because of rain.

At the time play was halted, Bexhill were 30-2 after just 10.3 overs having been asked to bat. Both teams picked up 10 points.

Bexhill lost openers Malcolm Johnson and James Walker with the score 12, but Liam Bryant hit a couple of nice fours en route to 16 not out off 19 balls.

Then came a biblical storm which brought hail, thunder, lightning and pouring rain. Despite the covers being put on, within five minutes puddles were forming on the outfield.

About half-an-hour later - when the umpires waded through the puddles to look at the wicket - water had got underneath the covers. When the rain re-started 15 minutes later, the game was called-off and after a good tea Bexhill headed back to a sunny Polegrove to watch the second XI.
