Ashar Zaidi scored an unbeaten century and Dean Crawford took five wickets as Bexhill won by 107 runs away to Eastbourne in the Sussex Premier League.

After losing the toss and being invited to bat, Bexhill rattled up a very good total of 234-8. Shawn Johnson batted well for his 40, while Sussex professional Zaidi produced a masterclass.

Zaidi made a steady start before playing shots all round the wicket, including a cheeky ramp shot, in making 124 not out in 120 balls with two sixes and 12 fours.

Tim Hambridge (16) and Cameron Burgon (12) played cameo knocks late on to help get Bexhill up to maximum batting points.

Eastbourne knew early in their reply that a score of 200 would keep them up, but with Crawford and Johnson charging in, a steady flow of wickets kept Bexhill on top.

Even Sussex reserve wicketkeeper Callum Jackson (10) - the highest runscorer in the Premier League - could not keep the twin spearhead out.

Only some lusty hitting by the later batsmen got them a single batting point instead of the four needed. Crawford bowled unchanged to take 5-63 in 16.2 overs and Johnson finished with 2-35 in 11 overs as Eastbourne were all out for 127.

Crawford became only the fourth Bexhill bowler to take 40 wickets in a season since the club joined the Sussex League in 1978 and only the second overseas player. Johnson was close behind with 36.
