Hurst will do battle with two-time Premier Division champions and near-neighbours Horsham CC and August Cup A3/A4 finalists Bognor Regis CC in the league.

The Jubilee Fields outfit took third in Group A3 of last season’s supplementary cup competition, three points shy of group winners Bognor, and finished fifth in the last full Division 2 campaign back in 2019.

Burroughs admitted Hurst were looking to consolidate in 2021 but hoped his side could upset the apple cart along the way.

He said: “I think we all enjoyed the slightly shorter and win-lose format of the August Cup.

“It certainly served its purpose, but we’re looking forward to getting the league format going again.

“Division 2 is probably as strong as it’s ever been. It’s unrealistic to say we’ll be challenging for promotion.

“Our aim is to consolidate, be competitive every week and try to surprise a few sides along the way.

“Some of the best seasons we’ve had here have been when expectations are lower, but in terms of promotion, Horsham and Mayfield are nailed on.

“It would also be nice to reach round two of the T20 Cup. Historically we’ve been too hungover to compete on a Sunday so we’re delighted they have moved it to a Saturday!”

Burroughs also revealed there have been no personnel changes going into 2021 and that Hurst were looking to nurture their talented crop of youngsters.

He said there had been no new signings.

“We are pretty much the same side as last year,” he added. “We have a talented group of lads coming through who are probably a season or two away from the first XI, added to those already in the side like Josh Wood, Tommy Alexander, Max Hollander and Isaac Thornley.

“A lot of our efforts will be going into making sure the club is in the right place for them to take us forward in the next few years.

“There is a good, happy environment around the place, which is what club cricket should be all about.”
