Bowlers hold the upperhand butLindfield do enough to stay top

Bowlers held the edge in Division 3 East, where Lindfield stayed top after winning a low scoring game with lowly Crawley.

After being put in by the visitors, Lindfield were bowled out for 159 as James Pearce top scored with an unbeaten 34. It proved enough as Nathan Bell’s 4-11 helped send them back for 120.

Ansty went second after another woeful afternoon for the once mighty Lewes.

The hosts were unable to put out a full team at Sussex University and were rushed out for 39 as Jack Palser grabbed 6-7. The game lasted less than 40 overs in total.

Haywards Heath won another low scoring game at Hellingly, getting home by four wickets after bowling out the hosts for 143 despite James Pooley’s 68. Dan Strange then followed up his three wickets with an unbeaten 48.

Rottingdean moved up two places in an ever congested mid-table as 4-48 from Jon Golding helped remove Keymer & Hassocks for 188. In that total George Duplock made 63.

John Hobbs then struck 58 as Rottingdean cruised past the total for the loss of only two wickets.

Over in the West, life continues to be a struggle for Henfield despite their last pair denying Wisborough Green.

The Green set a target of 239-9 as Byron Napper top scored with 60 and Brighton Mugochi took 4-44.

In reply Henfield made 200-9 as Greg Marshall claimed 4-61.

Billingshurst made it four wins in a row to stay top as they edged out Steyning in a nailbiter after making 202-9. Dhanushka Mitipolaarachchi hit 73 and Ed Lamb took 5-75.

Gary Hunt (63no) looked like leading Steyning to victory but he ran out of partners after his side reached the last over needing four for victory with two wickets still in hand. Mitipolaarachchi took the last wicket with the final ball of the over.
